Kourampiedes (Christmas butter cookies)


About 900 gr flour

2 tsp baking powder

320 gr cow butter (Corfu type butter)

320 gr sheep butter

400 gr roasted almonds

3 egg yolks

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp clove

30 ml cognac or brandy

500 gr powdered sugar



We can use only one kind of butter if we wish (preferably cow butter). Have in mind that they have to cool completely after they are out of the oven, otherwise they can be broken. With these quantities of the ingredients, we can make 80-100 kourampiedes. We make a lot because we give them to friends as a gift, you can make half of them! Kids love them and place 1 or 2 on the sitting table before they go to sleep on New Year’s Eve, so Santa Claus can have a snack while he visits the house to leave his gifts under the Christmas tree!
