Orange and lemon cookies (koulourakia)

Ingredients

250 ml olive oil

300 gr sugar

150 ml orange juice

75 ml raki or other similar drink

1 tsp orange or lemon zest

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1,5 tsp baker’s ammonia

75 ml lemon juice

1,5 tsp baking powder

850 gr plain flour

5-6 tbsp sesame seeds

In Crete, we make these orange and lemon cookies (“koulourakia” as we call them) in every season of the year! Our yards have plenty of citrus fruit trees and we love oranges and lemons. These cookies have both of them!
